5-23. Through this award-winning musical, author Ted Swindley tells the
true story of Patsy Cline’s enduring friendship with a
straight-shootin’ Houston housewife. It is a heart-warming and funny
foot-stomp through the music and memories of two special women.
Next on stage is the Maine premiere of “Becky’s New Car,” Oct. 17-Nov.
4. Becky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and in a
middling marriage—with no prospects for change on the horizon. Then one
night a socially inept and grief-struck millionaire stumbles into the
car dealership where Becky works. Called a “smart, comic cruise down the
road less traveled,” audience members will play a vital role in how the
story unfolds, so come ready to participate!
Leapin’ Lizards! The holiday season brings America’s most beloved little
redhead to the stage in “Annie,” Dec. 5-29. A delightful musical for
the entire family, “Annie” brings the audience on adventure after
fun-filled adventure with her lovable mutt, Sandy, and a cast of twenty
that is sure to create an unforgettable experience.
The New Year will begin with the Maine Premiere of “The Sugar Bean
Sisters,” Jan. 30-Feb. 17. This imaginative, southern gothic comedy,
tells the story of three sisters who each cling to seemingly impossible
dreams. The scene is set in a Florida swamp near Disney World where
romance, murder, and alien abduction ensue. This fantastically wacky
play will have you wondering what will happen next.
Penobscot Theatre is thrilled to present the Pulitzer Prize winner for
Drama, “WIT,” Mar. 13-31. This modern classic tells the story of Vivian
Bearing, Ph.D., a renowned professor of English diagnosed with stage
four ovarian cancer. During the course of her illness, Vivian comes to
reassess her life and her work with a humor that is transformative both
for her and the audience.
Wrapping up the mainstage season is a brand new adaptation of one of the
greatest adventures of all time, “Around the World in Eighty Days,” May
15-June 2. The Jules Verne tale of adventure, romance and stampeding
elephants is not one to be missed. Often produced with trampolines and
water guns, “Around The World in Eighty Days” is the perfect finale to a
season that can only be described as a lot of fun!
These productions, coupled with the seventh annual Northern Writes New
Play Festival, June 10-21, 2013, a Youth Theatre production of the
classic children's story “The Little Prince” April 11-14 and several
special events will add to an already exciting 2012-2013.
