Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical

December 5 - 29, 2019

Book by Dennis Kelly, Music and Lyrics by Tim Minchin

“…an exhilarating tale of empowerment as told from the perspective of the most powerless of them all… little children.” -New York Times

An avid reader, and imbued with powers even she doesn’t fully comprehend, Matilda is a clever and imaginative girl. At school for the first time, she encounters two authority figures who are polar opposites; the kind and nurturing Miss Honey, and the mean and demanding Miss Trunchbull.

Originally written by Roald Dahl, Matilda is the story of a kind and curious child who triumphs in the face of adversity. In true Roald Dahl fashion, victory for the underdog is never in question.

Audiences will be left with a powerful message to pursue with tenacity their own curious natures. Starring Ben Layman as the evil Miss Trunchbull and directed by the group production of Jeff Payton & Matt Shaffer. A Maine Professional Premiere!

Generously sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank, Dead River, and Vance Gray

Relaxed Performance – December 26th  1:00pm

A relaxed performance is designed for audience members who may be sensitive to light and sound, have disabilities which prevent sitting or being silent for long periods of time, and for families with very young children. At this relaxed performance of Matilda, audiences can expect that the house lights will remain on, the doors to the theatre will remain open to allow people to move freely about the theatre, and those audience members who feel the need to vocalize can do so at will. The theatre will offer “chill out” spaces in the lobby where people can go if they need a break from the action and sound onstage.  Please join us!
