Based on the bestselling book series by Rick Riordan, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is brought to the stage with a book by Joe Tracz, and music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki. The story follows the adventures of young Percy Jackson as he uncovers his true destiny. After a terrifying battle with a monster in the hallways of his school, Percy discovers that he is a son of Poseidon, that the Greek Gods are alive and well, and that only he can stop a war between them! Percy and his friends must go on a perilous journey to find Zeus’ lightning bolt and save humanity. The Lightning Thief is a high energy rock and roll musical that serves up action-packed mythical adventure!
“The whole Dramatic Academy team at PTC is ecstatic to be back in person for summer camp after 2 years!” says Creative Curriculum Director for Education, Ben Layman, “For weeks our students have been hard at work to learn, create, and craft this amazing production. We can’t wait to showcase their talent on the big stage!”
Over the course of 3 weeks, 34 campers have been preparing to take on the task of making up the cast of heroes, Gods, Creatures, & Camp Half-Blood campers. Behind the scenes are 4 students who have been creating this mythological world as part of the Dramatic Academy tech track session. Campers have been taught by industry professionals from Penobscot Theatre Company who work throughout the Bangor Region, learning about scenic design, costumes, lights, sound, projections, and stage management throughout the three-week session. For performances, campers will be the stage crew for The Lightning Thief and experience hands-on what working backstage is all about!
